The San Diego Unified School District Board voted on May 26 to support a Construction Careers Project Stabilization Agreement covering all school renovations and construction to be funded with $2.1 billion in voter-approved bonds.
Impacts:
All workers on the school projects will have healthcare coverage.
The bond money stays in the community, thanks to strong local hiring goals: 100% within the County, 70% within the school district and 35% from target zip codes.
Apprenticeship programs will provide pathways to middle-class careers for youth, minority workers and disadvantaged families.
Any contractor can bid for the construction projects as long as they abide by the processes and standards set in the agreement.
In use by school districts and other agencies around the state, PSAs have been proven to deliver quality work within budget and provide smooth
coordination of projects.
